Populo announces board changes, including welcoming new Chair Tony Travers

Posted 06 September 2024

Populo Living is delighted to welcome Tony Travers to his new role as Chair on the Populo Living Group Board, having previously been a Senior Independent Director.

Tony brings expertise from over 35 years in the industry, with pivotal roles at John Laing Construction and Countryside Properties, overseeing the delivery of over 30,000 homes. We look forward to a new working relationship with Tony, as we continue to build on our successes to date, delivering more - and more affordable - housing for Newham.

Tony commented: “I feel privileged and excited to be taking on this new role at a time when the demands for new housing are so great.

“I am honoured to be succeeding Steve Quartermain and look forward to working with the London Borough of Newham, the Board and the Executive Team in the years to come to continue to deliver quality homes and services, both to Populo’s current and future residents, as well as the wider residents of Newham.”

Outgoing board members
Tony replaces Steve Quartermain as outgoing Acting Chair and Non-executive Director, who we thank for his dedicated service over the last four years.

During his tenure, Steve has steered the company through a period of phenomenal growth where we have built several 100 high-quality homes, including a very high proportion of genuinely affordable homes that have transformed the lives of many.

This included supporting us in achieving key housing milestones, in particular, the Carpenters Estate Masterplan, which was shaped and supported by residents.

While he is stepping down officially, Steve has helpfully agreed to keep an eye on our exciting new Great Green Lofts project as well as our next phase of growth. Once again, we thank him for all his help, support and expertise.

We would also like to thank Non-Executive Director Tim Seddon who is also moving on to new opportunities. Like Steve, Tim is stepping down after four years in his role as Non-Exec Director of Populo Living to take on some fresh challenges.

Tim has added invaluable residential development and commercial experience and understandably must now focus on his new Chief Exec role at Retirement Villages.
